How come Aishwarya Rai has green eyes?

I know there are Indian people out there with blue/green eyes but I’m wondering how this came about. Has there always just been this eye colour in the gene pool? Is she part European? Or has it got something to do with Alexander the Great’s soldiers spreading their genetics throughout India, leaving traits like these?
